…at the crossroads
When the meeting of people at the crossroads of life leads them coincidently to magical places, the need for the soul to seek reason is born. The island, the white, fortified cluster of the village called “Tripotamos” at the roof of the Exombourgo rock, the isolated remains, the people and traditions functioning, then, as rings of a valuable broken chain which must be connected once more.
At the beginning of the village, towards the west, in the “manikaki” neighborhood, an old stone cottage of Zambeta Siotou, of traditional styling and an old isolated residence, of Katerina Siotou were obtained in the early 1990s.
The isolated residence was renovated first, so as to ensure the sustainability of the in-between walls with the subordinate stone built adjacent home thus becoming two-level home, with four beds. The, in 2006, the rebuilding of the adjacent old home began and its conversion into two lodgings. One of the level of the upper street of the village, with four beds and one on the level of the lower gradual side street, with three beds.
The rebuilding was manually served with the retaining of the structure and the traditional elements of the shell and with the re-using of the old Tinian almond shaped rock, in sections which were removed and restructured. The materials were chosen bearing in mind their environmentally friendly behavior towards older structures, their endurance to the climatic conditions and their ecological certification.
The printing of the shell and the “hidden” internal space was proven sufficient to accommodate its new use. The old furniture was repaired and thus found its place in the new space.
The respect to the retaining of the structure of the shell enhances its environmental behavior.
